There's More

In an open and filled sanctuary, I stood up simultaneously with the rest of the congregation and looked out over the familiar wooden beams and hanging lights. I listened to the monotone crowd collectively recite their line right on que. That’s when I heard it. Not quite a voice, but distinct. Not quite my own thoughts but pinging throughout my mind. Seemingly coming from inside myself but not of myself. Two words. “There’s more.” That’s all it was. Those two words pierced my soul that day. And even though I didn’t know where they came from, somehow, I knew exactly what they meant. “There’s more to Me than this. Come and see. Search and you will find it.” It was such a substantial thought that it convinced my soul to obey the notion. I have always been a rule-follower, never rocked the boat, always kept the peace. But for the first time in my life, at 14 years of age, I said no to something. And it was a big one! (Refusing to complete a traditional religious sacrament.) It wasn’t until ten years later, I realized that those words were the first time I heard the voice of God and witnessed my own heart of obedience to my Heavenly Father.
What do you know about Jesus? …There’s more. How close are you to your Heavenly Father? …There’s more. Have you read the Bible multiple times? …There’s more. Think Jesus is only the stories you heard as a child? …There’s more. The Holy Spirit feels closer than your own skin? …There’s more. No matter where you are in your walk with God, there IS more. More about Him we don’t know. More we cannot comprehend. So much more than we can see. So, whatever you are going through, let these two simple words wash over you like a refreshing summer rain… There’s more!
The Lord says, “Your thoughts are not like my thoughts. Your ways are not like my ways. Just as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways. And my thoughts are higher than your thoughts. Rain and snow fall from the sky. They don’t return without watering the ground. They cause the plants to sprout and grow. And the plants make seeds for the farmer. And from these seeds people have bread to eat. The words I say do the same thing. They will not return to me empty. They make the things happen that I want to happen. They succeed in doing what I send them to do. So you will go out with joy. You will be led out in peace. The mountains and hills will burst into song before you. All the trees in the fields will clap their hands. Large cypress trees will grow where thorn bushes were. Myrtle trees will grow where weeds were. These things will be a reminder of the Lord’s promise. And this reminder will never be destroyed.” Isaiah 55:8-13 ICB
